Hello there! I’m Sarah. Nurse and writer in the Seattle area.
I’ve been a nurse for the last ten years, starting in adult med-surg/telemetry then adult neurology before transitioning to pediatrics, working first in cardiovascular intensive care (CVICU) and currently in the recovery room. During this decade I’ve worked nights, days, every other weekend, and countless holidays; supported my coworkers as charge nurse and nurse educator; oriented new nurses; and found ways to connect with patients of all ages and their families. It wasn’t until I took a break from the bedside that I realized I wanted to focus my attention on helping nurses (you can read about that here) and decided to go back to school for my master’s in Nurse Education.
In2017, I started a blog (here is my first post) to cope with the intensity of the CVICU patient population and the moral distressing decisions we sometimes made for these children. After the death of one of my patients (you can read about that here and here and sharing my experiences with coworkers and other nurses, I realized many of us never learned to navigate the emotional complexities of working in healthcare.
I wanted to create an online platform to support nurses and other healthcare professionals by sharing stories and resources regarding all things well-being and resilience–including but not limited to research, articles, interviews, podcasts, programs, and classes. There is incredible content out there but it can be difficult to find when actually needed. My hope is this site provides a space to connect and a jumping off point for exploring sustainable practices.
While procrastinating on blog posts, I love to read, drink tea and spend time on the water. Say hi over on Instagram at @nursesarahwrites.
Thank you for reading!
